Soul of the Desert CIFF.
In Colombia’s La Guajira desert, Georgina Epiayu—an Indigenous Wayúu transgender woman in her seventies—travels to claim a basic right: an ID card that finally reflects her name and gender. What starts as a practical task turns into a personal journey. Along the way, she faces a frustrating bureaucracy and revisits places tied to her past. The trip also brings her back into contact with family members she has not seen in years, reopening old wounds but also creating space for understanding. A stunning debut feature by Mónica Taboada-Tapia, this work exemplifies a vital centring of marginalised transgender and indigenous perspectives.
