No Other Choice CIFF.
A combination of black humor with thriller elements is an apt description for this exceptional and highly acclaimed film. Yoo Man-su (Lee Byung-hun), a middle-aged man with a lovely family, spacious dream house and a top job, is suddenly fired from the paper factory where he had worked for 25 years. Protesting doesn't help and with the platitude “there was no other choice,” he finds himself unemployed out on the street. Given his lifestyle, his family must drastically adjust their way of life. He diligently begins searching for new worka job that must suit his stature and experience. However, there are multiple other competitors searching for the same position. Driven to desperation, he decides via an ingenious and rigorous plan to eliminate his competitors. This way, he thinks, he'll secure his position in the next job interviews. The film poses the questions: How far are you willing to go when there's no other choice? What happens to the modern man when he finds himself without work, without himself, without purpose?
