The Last Meal CIFF.

This first feature from afro-Quebecoise filmmaker Maryse Legagneur is a muted but deeply resonant story of buried trauma, family ties and the power of shared cultural heritage and history to both shape and heal. As he is dying of cancer, Reynold (Gilberto Laumord) reaches out to his daughter Vanessa (Marie-Evelyne Lessard), who he has not seen or spoken to in 20 years. Over the course of the film, which weaves its narrative seamlessly between present-day Canada and Duvalier-era Haiti, father and daughter attempt to repair their relationship as they share the carefully prepared Haitian dishes that Vanessa is learning to make with help from her aunt (Mireille Metellus).
